Since 2000, the Secretary-General has shared with staff information on instances where he has had to exercise his authority in disciplinary matters under Article X of the United Nations Staff Regulations.
Although these circulars have served as a report card for the Organization’s accountability mechanisms, they have also raised awareness and enhanced transparency regarding accountability in disciplinary matters among managers and staff.
In cases where the staff member wishes to pursue an issue beyond the disciplinary measure, the case is submitted to UNAT. UNAT is the independent organ that can rule on applications alleging non-observance of the regulations and rules. Sample cases can be found on the following links:
